I saw a twitter post the other day calling for absolute calm amongst Celtic supporters in these remaining weeks of the season.

The gist of the post was that with three of our four remaining league games at home then the onus is on us in the stands to exude a serenity which in turn will then translate to the players on the park.

Very best wishes with that.

With just three points separating us from Rangers at the top of the table every point’s a prisoner and the tension amongst fans has been palpable in recent weeks.

And rightly so.

This is what it’s all about.

If you want your entertainment to come without drama, anxiety and the great unknown then you’re in the wrong place.

Late drama is very generally the Celtic way. With some notable exceptions in recent history.

In Brendan Rodgers’ first season as Celtic Manager in 2016/17 he cruised to the title over a hapless Rangers by an incredible 30 points.

Ronny Deila’s two seasons in the hot-seat saw us win by 17 and 15 points respectively over Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen.

Neil Lennon’s first spell saw winning margins of 16, 20 and 29 points.

And whilst it’s all fun and games at the time and undoubtedly every single title should be cherished, there’s just something very different about clinching the league in the closing weeks of the campaign.

Or even on the very last day.

Ask anyone who witnessed Wim Jansen’s side ‘stopping the ten’ in 1998.

Or those who were around for ‘the miracle of Love Street’ in 1986.

Or more recently the ‘title for Tommy’ where a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink header sealed the title at Tannadice for Gordon Strachan’s side in 2008.

Fans recall these victories as amongst the best of their Celtic supporting life and for good reason.

It’s the absolute joy of competitive sport.

It’s the ultimate reward for your support over a ten-month campaign of highs, lows and everything else in between as fan of the green and white.

And you wouldn’t change it for the world.

So starting once again tomorrow against Hearts, do as you always do.

Be anxious if your anxious, be calm if you’re calm (who are you!?). But whether you’re in the stands at Celtic Park or following from one of the four corners of the globe give your absolute all in terms of your unflinching support as we drive the Bhoys on to yet another title.

(‘Going for 54’ anyone? 👀)

Lose your head, debate Celtic passionately, and take every single kick of the ball to heart.

Where’s the fun in doing it any other way.

  1. Nailed it. That’s exactly how I feel about it. I’ll be watching from New Zealand late Saturday/Early Sunday and my nerves are already at me. But I remember 1998, and the excitement, tension and ultimate relief and joy of that win.
