Celtic are back in Champions League action this week against Shakthar Donetsk following a very credible performance against current champions Real Madrid on Matchday 1.
Despite the defeat on the night Ange Postecoglou’s side proved that they could go toe to toe with the best that European football’s top competition has to offer – at least in spells – and will be looking to take that confidence into the remaining five group games in Group F.
In all likelihood Celtic will now be battling with Shakhtar Donetsk and Leipzig for that second place spot in the group behind Madrid, and the chance to progress to the last 16 of this season’s competition.
Ange has propelled the club to incredible new levels in the relatively short time since he arrived from Japan and players and fans alike are excited by the prospect of just how far the charismatic Australian can take us.
The suggestion that he may be tempted by a Premier League club in the future (Brighton have been mentioned this week) is understandable given the changes he has implemented and the success he’s brought to the club so far. However it does feel like Ange is building something special at Celtic and all connected to the club will be hopeful that he remains at Celtic Park for the foreseeable future and can realise his coaching ambitions with us.
Tino, Mif & Paddy discuss all of the above and more in this week’s episode of The Celtic Exchange Weekly.
