The Final Whistle: Celtic v Shakhtar Donetsk | UEFA Champions League | Tuesday 25th October 2022

It was another frustrating night in the Champions League for Celtic as we passed up a big opportunity to take all three points against Shakthar Donetsk at Celtic Park.

The game followed a similar pattern to when the sides met in Warsaw in mid-September with Celtic the dominant force in large spells of the game, but finding themselves unable to convert the chances that would have secured the win.

Giorgios Giakoumakis led the line well, scoring his first European goal for the club and can be pleased with his performance. Unfortunately fellow striker Kyogo Furuhashi isn’t at the levels we know he’s capable of just now and passed up a big chance to put as ahead midway through the second half.

Shakthar have an exciting talent in the shape of Mykhailo Mudryk and the young winger scored a stunning goal in the second half to pull his side level. Expect one of Europe’s top sides to snap him up sooner rather than later.

For Celtic lessons must now be learned and applied ahead our next foray into Europe, with next months visit to Madrid reduced to a formality as we end our journey in Group F.

Tino & James were at Celtic Park tonight to provide their reaction to the result shortly after the final whistle.
